Greater Lafayette, IN – For more than 40 years, United Way of Greater Lafayette has offered its Peer Union Counseling program, a comprehensive resource connection initiative designed to educate participants about local human service programs and strengthen their ability to support those in need.

Peer Union Counseling helps community members better understand the support available right here in Greater Lafayette—and how to confidently connect others to it. Participants learn about local agencies, the services they provide, and how to make effective referrals for friends, coworkers, neighbors, and peers facing challenges.

The upcoming in-person sessions will take place Wednesdays in September from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m., beginning September 2. Each week will focus on a key area of need, including:
•    Basic needs resources
•    Housing support
•    Health services
•    Legal and financial assistance and more

“This program is about turning compassion into action. Participants walk away with practical knowledge and real tools they can use to guide coworkers, neighbors, and friends to the right support at the right time,” said Al Salazar, Senior Labor Liaison – Engagement Associate at United Way of Greater Lafayette.

The cost of registration is $60 per person, which includes all classes, materials, dinners at each session, and a graduation ceremony upon completion.

Peer Union Counseling is open to all members of the Greater Lafayette community. Whether you’re a concerned citizen, union representative, human resources professional, school counselor, faith leader, or community volunteer, this program provides practical tools to better navigate local systems of support.
